1. Find Out About Discounted Deals
In grocery stores, yellow or orange price tags often catch your eye, offering a particular item at a discounted price. Don’t rush to thoughtlessly put a product with a “yellow price tag” in your cart; in fact, it may even be more expensive than the similar product next to it, which is sold without any campaigns
2. Make a Shopping List and Go to the Store Once a Week
You can avoid impulse purchases if you make a weekly menu and then make a shopping list accordingly. By sticking strictly to this list, you can avoid unnecessary shopping in the form of campaign items. Before you go to the store, take a look at the supplies in your kitchen cabinets, refrigerator and freezer just in case.
3. Shop Alone
If possible, try to store alone, without the kids. This will help avoid impulse purchases. If this is not possible, arrange with your children to buy something they want in advance. This way you avoid having temptations laid out on the shelves at children’s eye level in your basket, and you won’t have to have an awkward dialogue at the cash register.
4. Compare Prices
In addition to the price per package, always look at the price per kilogram or liter (it is indicated on the price tags in small print) and compare it with the price of similar products. Pay attention to the goods on the top and bottom shelves.
5. Go to Familiar Stores
Research shows that when you’re in a “foreign” store, there’s a good chance that you’ll put things in your shopping basket that you didn’t originally intend to buy. So try to shop in “your own” store, where you know your way around the aisles better. Plus, it helps to save time.
6. Listen to Your Music in the Stores
The slower you walk down the aisle, the more likely you are to see things you don’t need on the shelves, and they’ll just slip right into your shopping cart. So listen to energetic, fast music.
7. Don’t Store on an Empty Stomach
We tend to make irrational decisions when we’re hungry. So go to the grocery store on a full stomach. If you find yourself in the store on an empty stomach, put a mint or chewing gum in your mouth. This will help you resist temptation and pass the counter with buns.
8. Cook for Yourself, Buy in Bulk
Even in a small family, you should favor large packages when buying everyday items. In small quantities, it is advisable to buy only loose products. For example, a large portion of the cost of a 150-gram pack of ham is the cost of packaging. If you want to save money, avoid ready-made and convenience foods because the food you make yourself will generally cost less.
